On High. Meteora.

Posing with Varlaam Monastery in the background.

As interesting as it was visiting the museum at Delphi was, I'm really eager to get on the road because what I think will be the highlight of our road trip through Greece lies just ahead.

It was nearing 10am as we pulled away from the museum.  Goodbye Delphi!

What Say You, Oracle? Delphi.

At the archaeological site at Delphi.

From Olympia, our drive took us to the modern town of Delphi located in central Greece; the famed archaeological site is located nearby. We headed north, leaving the Peloponnese region behind us.  Near the city of Pio, we crossed an ultra modern looking bridge that separated the Gulf of Patras from the Gulf of Corinth.

Where Athletes Once Battled it Out. Ancient Olympia.

Standing before the Temple of Zeus.

We both had another great night's sleep last night and were up just past dawn.  It was the sound of someone sweeping the front portico, beneath our balcony, that woke me up.

Road Trip to Katakolo.

Our drive took us deep into the heart of the Peloponnese region.

We both had a great night's sleep - hopefully, enough that we've kicked our jet lag.  A picture perfect sunny day awaited us.  I had to enjoy some time on the balcony before getting ready for the day.

Hello Greece! Nafplio.

Nafplio, Greece. The view from our hotel room balcony.

Thankfully, it was an uneventful and at times, boring flight to Athens. Despite having requested seats next to each other, Bro and I were initially separated until a stewardess kindly arranged for us to be seated next to each other.  As with all long distance flights, I start to get antsy about five hours in.  That's when in-flight entertainment kicks in and I find myself watching one movie after another.  This flight though, I slept. It had already been a long travel day for me and I wanted to do nothing more than just nap.  Bro had also caught an early morning flight from SFO so he too was in need of some shut eye. We barely chatted on the plane.

The Layover. NYC.

Flying over DC just as the sun was about to rise.

Yawn! That's how my long day's journey to Greece started. SuperShuttle was outside my front door at 4am!  Yes, 4am!  I had already been up for an hour and was eagerly waiting for the van to arrive.  There were already two other passengers on board and we had one other person to pick up before we headed to Dulles Airport.
